About
Areas of Interest:
Video, Installation, Experimental Performance, Performative Curating
My current practice and related research engages with filmed and live performances, video installations and interactive interventions. In these works the performance and the installation are a site for post and meta-production in which the stream of film and performance images are crash choreographed into a critical sphere. Installations resonate apocalyptic, theatrical film sets and stages, where the development of the work can be experienced. Performers and actors are choreographed within these sets, enacting texts and movements, thereby generating a structure of social, cultural and political references and associations within the work.
I work and publish continuously under the artist name Szuper Gallery, often in co-operation with the artist Pavlo Kerestey.
Recent seminars and workshops
have addressed performance and video practice and theory, critical self-reflexive practices and performative curating, for example Curatorial Vaudeville, at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, Zurich, 2008, or Crash Choreography, Performance Workshop, at the Ecole der Beaux Art, Geneva. I have also contributed to HEA funded pedagogical research looking at performative aspects of teaching in The strength of the system and my experiences of it, was that in fact, oddly enough, it was actually a very collaborative enterprise already.
Postgraduate Supervision:
I welcome enquiries from prospective postgraduate students who would like to work on such topics as: research in and through art practice, film and video, filmed and live performance, installation as post-production, digital and time-based practice, collective practice(s), theatre as art, contemporary feminism, political art, alternative spaces.
