Pat Parslow works in OdinLab, researching social networking, virtual learning environments, virtual research environments, open learning, open learner models, open educational resources, concepts of the self and consciousness, Digital Identity, connectivism, networks, boundaries, abstraction and game based learning (amongst other things!)
He has recently worked on EU projects including:
MUVENation (using SecondLife as a teaching resource),
mobiblog (supporting mobile students through blogging)
LLL3D (virtual 3D environments for life long learning)
and JISC funded projects:
MeAggregator (applying ontologies to online asset management)
and LinkSphere (social networking in a virtual research environment)
as well as the Eduserv (and subsequently University of Reading) funded:
This Is Me (researching and producing educational material to support people discovering their Digital Identity)
He returned to education after working in land survey, civil engineering and IT (as support, developer and manager).
Suggesting to Academia.edu:
The system is essentially a wiki, so they could provide users with wiki pages and allow them to set permissions for individual users or for global access to specific pages. A Facebook 'wall' type system would be handy, which would cover messages.
