“Arctificial Territory”
This research project intends to invent and describe a psychological artistic space, which I call arctificial territory. This arctificial space is inhabited by fictional obsessional compulsvie and artificial hybrids. Arctificial combines artificial with arctic, trying to describe a condition that is both emotionally and physically cold and not natural but nevertheless part of nature.
The project explores the potential of this arctificial space to harness the creative but also destructive or just repetitive potential of the behaviours of Obssessive Compulsive Disorder as a method to explore obsessions and fantasies of immortality and Artificial Life/Intelligence informed and infused by theorists and creators of Artificial Intelligence, novelists, artists, filmmakers and scientists.
The research intends to create artificial/arctificial life fictions introducing the viewer to variants of an apparently obsessive compulsive arctificial world through video, text and the internet put together in an interlinked format like hypertext and using the idea of feedback loops as an overall structure.
‘Specimen’ of arctifcial life include a series of videos that utilise and adapt technologies, which artificially extend our physical capabilities. From the voice of mission control at a shuttle launch into the unknown of space to the qualities of the microscopic and macroscopic where identities may slip, leading to fantasies of alien and possibly artificial/arctificial identities.
